Prints

Charles Ritchie's prints are usually based on the artist's drawings, but utilize the techniques and materials of printmaking to reform and rediscover the image. Editions have been pulled with publisher James Stroud of Center Street Studio in Boston. Mezzotint plates are worked on by the artist in his studio and shipped back and forth between the artist and print workshop until the final image is attained. The artist's etchings and aquatints are created in residence at Center Street Studio in collaboration with James Stroud. Ritchie's monotypes are hand-printed by the artist in his own workshop by rubbing a lightweight paper onto a painted zinc plate using a glass paperweight. In all cases, the artist's subjects are created in reverse on the plate so that they will read properly when printed.
